Great feature for the price

I bought this less expensive magnetic protractor for use on adjustable belt sanding tables when I need to quickly set corners and save my center block for cleaner areas. It works as well as anything I've used and the needle sets up a bit quicker after moving compared to some others. The price is right - a high-quality device.

Pros
  • High marks for support and durability from testers
Cons
  • There are more interesting options.

Not used in measuring and marking tools

Purchased for installation on solar panels to get correct angle. We sold our camper with solar panels. Now I have it on our new van's microwave to test the auto-level system. It's also there to remind my wife that I bought it for my solar system. Works perfectly! The magnets are strong and make it easy to adjust gear without keeping it level. I would buy again if I needed another one.

Accurate, legible, reliable.

I have two of these and the first thing I did was compare them, they matched perfectly. When assembling undercarriage and suspension parts it is very important to compare both sides at the same time and that hasn't let me down. As with any goniometer, the larger the dial, the easier it is to read and the more accurate you can be. It strikes a good balance between readability and accessibility as they fit most of the places I need to measure. Would buy again.

Pros
  • Easy installation
Cons
  • I don't remember but there was something

Deviated by about 2 degrees

Bought a year ago, used a few times. All along I was wondering why some of my corners were a bit off. When I had to use this in combination with my bench level I figured the Irwin level wouldn't work because it's more useful. It turned out to be a Johnson angle finder which was about 2 degrees off which I confirmed with a test square. Worse still, it's unregulated. I should have checked when I received the item last year. This is made in the USA for you.

Pros
  • Satisfied so far
Cons
  • Ease of maintenance

American Precision

This is a well made, sturdy protractor. Metric and imperial measurements are accurate and square. I had trouble holding my square in the photo with one hand because the ceramic magnet is strong, but it's square. Complaints about the arrival of defective products relate to couriers and really rough handling and crushing under an avalanche of other packages, not to the quality and accuracy of the product. I definitely recommend this product. It is very well made in the United States and has high…

  • Good Thing

  • Some Change

This is great for checking the angle on a table or miter box on any instrument. I had an issue with the gauge sticking to the front of the gauge but I managed to fix it. It's great to be in the shop checking angles and you know you're always getting a fairly accurate prep without worrying about the electronics since an electronic protractor has failed. I've decided to go back to a reliable magnetic meter. Of course it's not an accurate tool and I wouldn't expect it to be accurate, but if you…

Great product, way better than any others I've used

First of all this is a fantastic product overall. Advantages: durable! I've dropped it on concrete and metal floors a few times and it hasn't completely broken. (It broke on a particularly hard fall.) Accuracy. The manual/mechanical angle reading is second to none. Nothing compares to gravity. Affordable - It's made in the USA and at a great price, you couldn't ask for more. Cons: The dial can be a bit small if you're trying to get a quick read from a non-standard angle. I would like a version…

Good for general construction purposes

This 700 degree viewfinder looks pretty well made despite being made entirely of plastic. The ceramic magnet is strong enough to hold onto even thin metal like a fridge, and it's reportedly glued to a flat plate that fits into a key slot on the back, so it shouldn't fall off when the protractor is removed from the metal surface will if the glue is ok. The needle is undamped and as long as the finderscope dial is held vertical the pin is free and sensitive. Any deviation from vertical (10…

Pros
  • Strong magnetic contact for accurate angle detection
Cons
  • Ugly packaging
