Although it's twice the price of the non-compact version, I think it's worth the price because it's compact! It's fairly light, very compact, quiet and has great battery life. The trigger action is intuitive and variable. You can use saw blades in different positions, which makes cutting in odd places even easier. This is my first Dewalt brushless tool. There is one big problem: the saw has some self-protection (either battery temperature or battery voltage I think). When I'm chopping branches in the garden, 100F+ in the summer, and the tool is sometimes in the sun (radiant heat), the saw stops working intermittently. Leave it for a few minutes and everything will work. This is no problem with a corded saw. Small problem: vibration. The vibration is as good as other saws without anti-vibration (which I didn't expect from a compact saw) and better than my corded saw.
