Revainrating 4 out of 5

Good cheap natural water stone definitely not 12000 grit

I rate 4 because I got what I expected. Can't give 5 stars because the description is wrong. First, it's a natural stone, so it's not true. YMMV. Mine, I would say, around 3000 grit. This will not give you a mirror finish. If you need a high gloss finish, get the King 6000 grit artificial stone. If you want a finer grit, you'll have to spend a lot of money on a Shapton stone. I bought this stone because I needed a portable, decent water stone and this stone works well for that purpose. It keeps my knives and chisels sharp and seems to last a long time. So far I've only used it with water and with Nagura. This worked great for sharpening my Japanese Gyuto (chef's knife) which was getting a bit dull. It worked great to fix the blade on my EDC pocket knife (which takes a lot of work), but it also removed the mirror finish from the undamaged parts of the blade. This is a good stone if your expectations are reasonable. However, being a natural stone I have noticed some deposits of much finer granular material, but as it is not uniform throughout the stone it is actually as fine as its coarsest parts.
