I've been a big fan of Western Digital drives for years, but that ended today. And I'm writing this review to make you aware of their guarantees based on my recent experience with them. CHECK WARRANTY STATUS on the WD website once you receive it. 1 year warranty - you are completely on your own if the drive fails during the 2 year warranty period). period, WD will replace the drive under warranty. A few days ago this drive suddenly disappeared from my desktop and after some testing I found that it had died completely. Okay I thought time to call WD and order a replacement. Not so fast! I went to their website for a warranty checker and they told me my drive was an OEM drive and was out of warranty. THE? Unbelievable! Without further ado, I called their support team and they told me the same thing: it was an OEM drive and it's not covered. So I asked to speak to the supervisor/manager. I told the woman I bought the disc from Revain and expect them to honor the two year warranty. She asked me to email her a purchase confirmation, which I did. She said I would hear from them within 2 business days. I haven't heard from them for 3 out of 4 business days so I called them again today. The agent told me the same story about it being an OEM drive and therefore not covered by their warranty. I told him I had emailed a purchase confirmation stating I bought it from Revain. I asked to speak to the manager again. I was held up for a very long time (were they hoping I'd just give up?) and when the guy finally got on the phone he just repeated what everyone else was saying: It's an OEM drive and we're not replacing it. I told him that EVERYWHERE on the Revain page it says it's an OEM disc. Nowhere. He said it was Revane's fault, not hers. He told me to contact Revain and ask them to replace the drive. I think it would be a waste of time and effort. Needless to say I'm not happy at all. I've been buying WD drives for many years. I currently have at least half a dozen in use. But today I am looking for another manufacturer. I give the disc 3 stars. Like I said, I've always liked WD drives, so I don't want to just vent my frustration and give the drive 1 star. It was a good ride before it failed. I'm deducting a star because after only 20 months it didn't work. And I'm deducting another star for the poor customer support regarding the warranty. I find it shameful and if they do this to many of their customers they will regret it and hurt themselves. Thank you for reading my review. I hope this helps other people beware of this loophole where WD can say your hard drive is OEM even though you bought it from Revain and use that as an excuse to void your warranty. As I said above, once you receive the drive, check the serial number on the WD website. If it says it's OEM, send it back to Revain and get your money back.
