Review on πŸ”§ Simmons 850SB Repair Kit - 8 Pieces for 4800 Model & 800Sb Series Yard Hydrant by Jerome Brooks

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Parts set for a yard hydrant. Works well.

I have been using Simmons fire hydrants for 30 years. I owned 5 of these. I had three out on a farm filling buckets and waterers in pastures with run down barns. (I installed the hydrants outside the fence so the horses couldn't play with them or hurt themselves if they bumped into them. Then I attached a short hose. The plumber figured out how to attach the pipes so I could get hot water out (The hot water heater in the other stalls. By flipping the handles on the wall in the heated equipment room in the main stall, I was able to mix hot and cold water, so in the winter the horses got warm water to drink from a fire hydrant in each pasture stall.) Only one of the 3 hydrants ever leaked and had to be replaced about every 15 years. I installed Simmons fire hydrants on another farm 10 years ago. I have 2 that sit in my stall next to a regular sink. Two water pipes from my house. One for hot. One for the cold. It has expired 3 times in 10 years. First flows hot, then cold. They are used a lot every day. Fill 6 buckets with water 3 or 4 times a day. Wash them daily. I also wash other things. Feeding buckets, washing my car, pressure washers for cleaning the outside of buildings, watering a newly planted pasture with a lawn sprinkler. I have used these parts kits 3 times. Parts wear out due to frequent switching on and off. I used them as faucets. I've had new parts installed by people who have never done it before. I'm concerned about the one part mentioned in the instructions that can easily fall off if you're not careful. In this case, you need to dig up the entire element. Expensive, I'm sure, if the work is paid for. It didn't happen to me. Maybe because I educate the workers first and/or call Simmons and get them to educate the workers. .what do you like to do. You will probably never use all the parts in one kit. You can buy custom parts. It costs the same, though, so you can just buy the entire kit and keep extra parts for the same money. And you can decide to replace a part that is not completely worn out because you have the parts on hand. These kits work well. I called Simmons to inquire about installation details. They were always very happy to help.
