Review on KidKraft Wooden Storage Childrens Furniture Furniture by Stephen Thomas

SUPER cute, VERY difficult to build, NOT durable

There's no denying this set is awesome! However, the prerequisite is that you really manage to collect it. The chairs were basic enough but the table was a nightmare. We needed two for that. It was FOUR hands plus a jar lid gripper, kitchen towel, allen wrench and adjustable tongs. This is because the holes in the wooden or actually "rubber" pegs that connect the sides of the table and are used to hold the baskets are too small and/or too flat and/or too crooked ( not quite sure ). die) take the screws that go into it. We thought of drilling more holes but were afraid the dowels would break. Result? One of us had to hold the dowel with one hand and hold it with pliers with the other hand. The other sat on the opposite side of the future table and held the pen, using a can gripper with one hand and using ALL FORCE to turn the hex wrench with the other hand. We quickly found that the tongs were making dents in the "rubber tree" so we placed a kitchen towel between the rubber strip and the tong handles. Helped a bit but not 100%. Luckily, once the containers are in place, you don't see the damage. But while we're no wimps, the manual labor required to drive a screw into a dowel was preposterous. And we had to do it TWENTY TIMES. It took over an hour just to install the dowels. By the time we finished we both had cramps, blisters on our arms and a couple of dented dowels. After reassembling I noticed a slight scratch on the surface of the countertop. That bothered me, but I guess as this is a children's table it doesn't really matter - it gets dirty, pulls and spills very quickly. What worries me most is that the adorable chairs have proven strong enough to support the weight of a very inquisitive adult male, at least for a short time (although I don't recommend it!), the table feels very unstable. Sure it's on a Barbour rug, but still. If the legs spanned the full width of the table instead of having an arch down the middle it might make it more stable, but that's not the case. That's why I'm worried about tips. What kid doesn't love to climb? Especially with things of this magnitude. It's so tempting! Finally, I would like to note that the containers are a bit smaller than I expected. Also, given the (odd) exterior angle they're looking at the table from, they don't achieve the effect I was aiming for to hide clutter. Worse, small objects placed there can easily attract attention and end up in the mouth of a small child, puppy, or other creature that likes to chew. Unfortunately, because the bins are so small, I can only think of a very limited number of things that will fit in there and not pose a choking hazard. Although my fault. I should have thought about these two things before buying. Bottom line: if you decide to buy this, make sure you have help. Four stars because the pain is temporary and the set is fantastic but if the table ends up tipping over that will quickly sink on you.
