The technology for creating self-leveling laser levels is simple: two lasers, one with a horizontal beam, the other with a vertical beam, are built into a small pendulum inside the box. When you move the slide lock switch on the front of the unit, the lasers turn on and the pendulum swings freely, automatically finding the spirit level and the lasers projecting bright green lines onto the wall. Moving the slider back to the off position turns them off and also locks the pendulum to keep it from wobbling during transport. The small pendulum has limited swing space. So if you hold the box further from the plumb line than the pendulum can swing, the lasers will flash to warn you to straighten the box a bit. Everything is very simple and you don't need to read the instructions. There is a bracket for hanging the spirit level on the wall or something else, with a hole for a nail and two magnets. The unit is also equipped with a standard 1/4"-20 tripod screw for mounting on many different devices that use this standard. Two push button switches are located on the top of the unit, one selects either the horizontal or vertical laser or both the other controls the brightness. Remember that the device must be at the same height as what you are trying to weight: in other words, if you are trying to level a picture frame at 5 feet off the ground, the device must also be at a height of 5ft from the ground as it can only aim lasers in a horizontal plane.You cannot place the unit 3ft off the ground on a table and aim a self-leveling horizontal laser at a 5ft picture frame .The beams, on the other hand, are simpler and the device can be placed more freely.The beams can be fixed in any position, so for example diagonally eLines can be projected onto a wall. The charging port is sealed with a rubber plug so that the device is adequately protected from water and dust. Accuracy has been very good on everything I've tested. Supercritical applications should also be checked with a default calibrated level, but for most applications this level is reasonable and worth the cost.
