Review on 25W Mini Black Reptile Heat Lamp Bulb 2 Pack - MaoTopCom 25W 60MM Infrared Ceramic Heat Emitter for Pet Brooder Coop Lizard Lambs Snake - No Light, AC 110V by Sharon Smith

A miniature heater that sends heat in all directions. Doesn't direct heat to where it's needed.

I've been experimenting with different lighting solutions for my bearded dragons for a while. I finally gave up the idea of "everything in one lightbulb”. This is because no manufacturer can provide the right balance between UV-B and IR for mercury vapor or metal halides. So you really can't do without two light bulbs. I figured I could use this as an extra heat source as I needed about 5-10 degrees more, but this bulb doesn't direct heat in a specific direction making it useless unless it's in a fully enclosed case and you want to heat up the whole room or if you dare get it a few inches closer to your animal so they can actually feel it, which would be dangerous. If it is mounted above the aquarium, more heat escapes into the room than reaches the bathing area. I tried one of the small GU10 halogen bulbs and it works 10x better. In fact, I was able to get a 105 degree hotspot in a 50 gallon tank with just a 70w metal halide at 16" and a 25w halogen at 10". When I tried this lamp instead of a 25w halogen lamp, at 10 inches it made no difference, the temperature only reached 90 degrees. I would recommend using GU10 halogen bulbs without a lens cap during the day and using a heat mat at night if absolutely necessary, which is much more efficient (when it's in the tank). Most animals do not need warmth at night when they are indoors at room temperature anyway. Bearded dragons do better without heat at night because their natural habitat cools down at night.

Pros
  • ◀ 2 x 25w bulbs: 25w bulbs are suitable for small pets and small pet boxes. It will not easily burn small animals. And you can use 2 x 25W ceramic heaters alternately to extend the service life.
Cons
  • Nothing here
