Where is the channel guide?

I just bought one of these and while it works it doesn't work as expected. When I first set it up, it scanned and found a ton of channels and it was awful. I loved it. It looks like it has captured about 50-100 channels. I wanted to test their reception and then experiment with antenna placement to see if I could get more channels etc. However, from that point on I was completely confused. I've spent at least an hour on this and can't figure out how to get the channel guide so I can see in the grid/menu what channels I have, what I can scroll to see etc. Everything I can see on screen can get this is a single channel under which there is a guide showing every show that will be on this ONE channel for the next few hours/days. To change to another channel I can press up/down/etc but NO GRID, DISPLAY/MENU etc to know which channel to select what to watch. It sounds like you'll have to approach each one individually and then see what it is. Should the box work like this? If so, then I think you need to have some sort of broadcast listing for your area in advance to refer to? Or sit down and write your own grid of channel numbers to get ahead? It just seems silly to do this in the 21st century. If this is a limitation of this device which channel you will choose to choose what you want to watch.
