Review on SanDisk 256GB Ultra Dual Drive Luxe USB Type-C - High-Speed Data Transfer & Stylish Design by Barry Shaker

Revainrating 1 out of 5

Not worth the money or the headache.

First I looked for a USB-C stick. I mostly see duplicate drives. Certain USB-C flash drives are either cheap or overpriced. It's great for my price range and I don't need to overdo it buying 1TB or anything. I thought 256GB would be ok because it's USB and not an external hard drive. I feel like I don't have the strength to expect it to meet my file criteria. I came across various SanDisk dual drives like "Ultra Dual Drive" and then "Ultra Dual Drive Go" but after reading their reviews. There is no such thing as speed. I ran into this and the speed was better than both. Despite the fact that the description says that they all have the same speed (150 megabytes per second), but someone in the reviews posted the results of a speed test, so I ended up with this one. So far the speed is good. Important part: I plug this into a USB-C port on my desktop, everything works fine the first time. 2 times after that it shuts down my computer. I suspect driver issues so I updated my drivers and installed every update I could find for my computer. While everything was getting installed I thought I had some time to write this review. It was 3 stars at first but then I figured since I'm writing a review I might as well post a speed test, so I plug in USB-C and you know what? He fell again! (The installation of all drivers is complete, but I haven't restarted the computer yet because I wanted to finish writing this review, luckily I was careful and saved my review in a notepad before plugging in the USB-C) . It seems I need to shut down the computer and plug in the drive before booting the computer. It's quite a hassle to turn off my computer and plug in something that's supposed to be plug and play. I finally managed to run some speed tests and include them in the photos for my review. If you're wondering what I use for speed testing, I use CrystalDiskMark Shizuku Edition. You can see I'm a pushover, so I really enjoy being the computer nerd that I am. My only conclusion is that the flash drive is defective. I've mainly used this on my iPad Pro, which seems to be working fine. Except for the 1st time it just disconnected from my iPad Pro and no longer shows up (which is why USB causes problems not only on my computer but also on my iPad). I had to disconnect and reconnect. I was planning to use it with my iPad for study on the go, so I keep my lectures on the hard drive. If this continues. I'm afraid I won't do anything. I'll keep trying this and see how well it works. I will back up my files on the drive in case it dies. - note. Since it is a metal case, it gets very hot. Build quality seems good BUT I've had it for a little over a day. The switching mechanism that toggles between USB-C and traditional Type-A has come loose. When I first received it, it was very durable. Now it starts to rumble. At this point I'm going to break open the switching mechanism and use it like these fancy non-USB devices without all the fancy mechanisms. I'm going to let this sit a little longer because I need it now until I can read more reviews of a better alternative and bring it back. I hope someone will help and maybe help solve these problems? I don't know how SanDisk will handle this. I gave 5 stars for ease of use. Yes, it's easy to plug it in and damage your computer. Any child can do that. If you have kids and are working on a big project without saving any more. Your child may simply choose to plug in that USB stick because you know. Children love to put things inside other things. Good game.

Pros
  • Great design
Cons
  • Crumpled packaging
