Review on πŸ” Nikon 7483 PROSTAFF 8x25 Waterproof All-Terrain Binoculars by Robert Lewis

Revainrating 2 out of 5

Wrong, not good, revised rating

Original 2009 rating: I'm not a binoculars expert, but I am very satisfied with these binoculars. They are compact, relatively light, have a bright, clear image and an adjustable eyepiece. Perfect for me - I plan to take them on board my kayak for bird watching. April 2012 - I got these binoculars out today for bird watching, have hardly used them in the time I've had them except to take them to the opera. occasionally; In any case, they have not been roughly treated (only used a few times for kayaking). Today I had double when I looked at them and no settings helped. Other people could see through my binoculars and I could see through theirs, but through mine I could only see two ways. So I asked the binoculars expert at the event what could be going on. He was able to see one after the other but admitted to eye fatigue and said the problem was most likely that the two barrels of the binoculars were misaligned (see also 1 star review). I recently had an issue with double vision which now only bothers me when I'm very tired or in a dark theater where there aren't many visual cues and these binoculars are so bad I can't see them. He suggested I send it to Nikon for repair, but said that this type of design, where the two barrels are smaller at the other end, was inherently brittle. He recommended that I buy a straight-barreled rifle. I ended up buying a pair of Vortex Optics 8x28 waterproof Viper series roof prism binoculars (an equally inexpensive Diamondback series) and they are incredibly bright and sharp compared to Nikon. They weigh 1.2 pounds and are fairly compact. Looking back, I was happy with Nikon until my eyes couldn't compensate for their problems. I would understand their worldview to be broken if I actively used them, but I didn't. I'll write a review of the Vortex after I've had a chance to use it for a while. Apparently, when it comes to binoculars, more money = better binoculars, and Nikons are definitely not expensive. I was told that "good glass" costs about $300.
