It is very difficult to tell which fires are burning. It turned out that this is so.

I've been using this little checker around the house for two years. It's a solid device, but so confusing it's hard to tell which lights are on. I thought it was because these bulbs are dim and also the bulb compartments are connected internally which allows the light to leak out to the next compartment and shine a little. After so much agony I finally decided to saw off the light box to see the bare bulbs. This would make the checker vulnerable to being dropped or hit by other tools in my toolbox, but I figured it would be better because at least I can see the lights well. It turned out that not only were the lights dimmed and the compartments separated by clear plastic, but actually all the bulbs were on when the power was on. Yes, of course some lights are brighter than others to indicate status, but it's no surprise that it was hard to tell which lights were on. See image. This is meant to indicate "open ground" so only the middle orange light should be on, but as you can see the other two lights on each side are a bit on as well. This is bad! Remember that I've already sawed off the cover so you can see the bare bulbs. No wonder I struggled so much and now I feel really stupid trying to use this badly designed checker. It's labeled 'Revain's Choice' and we tend to think it's a good product, but not essential! Dear Sperry Instruments, if you now have a better product. Send it. I will test it for you to check. Provided you are sure that you live up to my high standards!
