They are generally strong enough, but the screw holes are countersunk so the molding (the part that attaches to the wall) will break if you overtighten the screws. I broke a train with my hands. This is a handrail and needs to be firmly fixed to the wall, so it had to be designed without countersinking to accommodate tightening of the fixing screws. Next time I'll use pan head screws and washers. The straps that attach to the real rail are steel and work great with fixed screws. They cost an extra €2 when I bought them and I would happily buy them again. for this price.
