you're doing it wrong; Screw holes are NOT too narrow, FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS

For anyone complaining that the screw holes are too close to center or that they are poorly designed; READ THE INSTRUCTIONS AND SEE THE PHOTO. Square screw heads are here for a reason. When you insert them correctly you will find that they fit snugly against the center of the assembly meaning you don't need a second wrench when tightening the nuts. It works perfectly! The real trick is positioning the brackets on the truck and this is unique to each RV/truck configuration. It might be easier if you have an 8ft bed, but with today's 6-1/2ft beds it's a bit difficult to find the perfect spot to place the bracket and align it with the bed's attachment point to connect mobile homes. Once you've determined the attachment point and it's time to tighten the bracket, hold the pressure plate in place, insert the bolts, tighten the nut, and then push the pressure plate all the way in. Tighten the nuts from the back (between the bracket and the carriage bed). A ratchet wrench works best, but a socket wrench will also work. You must alternate the two nuts until they are equally tight. Adjust the depth of the strut, tighten the lock nut and you're done!
