Review on Olympus VN2100 Digital Voice Recorder: Capture Clear and Crisp Audio Anywhere by Ricky Rey

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Overview The VN2100 works well with portable AV

I bought this to replace a much bulkier cassette player for recording maps and other information while hiking the vast Hawaiian Volcano Park . It exceeded my expectations in terms of clarity, capacity, and the fact that it doesn't turn on and off accidentally. Volume is excellent in HQ mode, picking up footsteps in desert areas without the sound of a tape recorder. I use "Hold" between the posts and have logged 40 for 12 miles/5 hours of hiking with no errors. In bad weather I use it in a zipped bag with no visible loss of quality. I forgot to turn it off and put it in my jacket pocket, where it continued to do its work, including some expletives when I deleted a waypoint on my GPS. The only drawback is resetting the time/date when changing the battery. For my use it doesn't matter. (And I switched in vain because I misread the battery gauge). I don't know the battery life yet and can switch to rechargeable ones to charge along with the GPS. Just a practical thing.

Pros
  • Highly rated by testers for support and durability
Cons
  • Updates available
