I have a Surface Pro 7 and as long as I take it out of the case I can use this hub. But that means I have to take it out of the case to connect the fingerprint reader and mouse. I can connect a thing or two because my Surface only has one USB port, but the whole reason I have a hub so I can connect multiple things to it at the same time. So yes, it works great as long as you attach it perfectly flush to the surface. If you plan to take your Surface somewhere and protect it, it's probably best to use a hub with a cable that plugs into a USB-C port.
