Other digital timers can be accurate to the second, this one only to the minute, but I can't hear it unless I'm carrying it around. This timer sounds like an old house phone from the 50s. It has a nice retro look and the magnet is strong enough to hang on the fridge which doubles as a soundboard. I don't know how long-lasting it will be, but there are no spare batteries and it won't break much, so I'm fighting for a long time. There were no instructions for this so thanks to the reviewer who said first turn the timer to 60 minutes and then back down to the actual number of minutes it takes you to fully wind the bell.
