EZ Repair for Alpha1 G2 Mercruiser Output Drive Input Shaft Seal.

ForBeast and the simplest solution to worn bottom on the shaft where the stuffing box needs to move. I have a Mercruiser Alpha 1 Gen 2 outboard motor. Sooner or later, water will enter the driveshaft boot through a failed driveshaft boot, shift shaft seal, or shift cable boot. (Nobody tells you to change shifter shaft seals, but they are a common culprit and a limited-life wearing part.) When this happens, the front seal at the top of the drive strut lets water into the drivetrain and fouls the drivetrain. oil and insert the inlet yoke where the oil seal should sit. Assuming your gimbals aren't messed up, the choice you have other than buying a new input yoke, which requires lots of cumbersome shims to properly install the gears, is to get one of these. The sleeve has an extension on one end that helps with installation. An installation tool is included, but you will need to cut the end of the tool to fit the shaft and flared portion. The flared end comes first, but in my case the sleeve would still be too long; So start with that flared part, but when the sleeve is as low as possible, take that flared part off like opening an old-fashioned can of sardines to get the last 1/8 inch or so. Now many places tell how to do it. What they don't tell you is how to tap that very thin gentle sleeve to the end once the installation bell is gone. The answer is to tap it with a light mallet and a piece of birch or pine used as a punch, using the FINISH on the sharp edge of the case. The end grain (usually) splits the wood before it bends over the case. be gentle Then buff the edge with sandpaper so you don't damage the seal once everything is put together. It all worked like magic for me. Back on the water for a fraction of the cost and a fraction of the time. Delivery was quick, price was good.
