good option as an external hard drive.

No pointless product. Does what it should. I took it along with https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00LS268YG/ref=cm_cr_ryp_prd_ttl_sol_11 to upgrade my PS3 Slim 12GB to 160GB to play more games at will. It's going strong so far.
