So I put the water softener in a zero effect canister filter, wanted to write a terrible review and then decided to take the softener and put it in an external replacement filter hanger since my 80 gallon tank won. Do not allow the use of this filter. I had to make some adjustments to make it fit but my GH was off the charts, after 12 hours my GH was down to -3! I'm so crazy! I have used API water softening pads but they are not as effective. So yes this product works 100% but not in a canister filter, I have a Dolphin 1600.
