Review on Meike 6 5Mm Fisheye Mirorrless Camera by Charlie Clayton

This is a very well made (full metal) and probably the cheapest exotic circular fisheye lens on the market. It's very sharp BUT you definitely need to focus it carefully if you want to get the best performance. Here's what I noticed when using the lens: 1) In DX format, the top and bottom of the circle are cropped - hence the 4 star rating. If you want a full circle image, you must use this lens on a full frame camera like the Sony A7 series. I use this lens on my Sony A7RII and then crop the frame as needed. I get 14MP images from the A7Rii 42MP full frame (makes sense as the lens is made for DX format) - more than enough for my needs. 2) FOCUS, FOCUS, FOCUS! I have found that the best approach is to focus on the farthest object in the frame and then check the sharpness of the closest object. Then adjust focus and aperture as needed. I know you expect infinite depth of field from this type of lens, but that doesn't seem to be the case here. Once focused, the lens looks impressively sharp with minimal fringing around the edges of the circle that can be easily and completely removed in Photoshop. The lens handles flare very well (I haven't been able to get flare yet) and when the sun is in frame you're rewarded with a beautiful image of the sun star. 3) No hard stop at infinity - do what you need for your own needs. 4) No depth of field scale - this isn't a big deal to me, but it might be to some people. 5) Front lens cap VERY tightly fitted. I almost dropped the lens the first time I tried to take it off. On the positive side, it stays in any case, protects the front element and doesn't get lost. 6) The lens is very well made, all metal except for the rubberized focus ring cover, and feels unexpectedly heavy when you pick it up. high. The front cover is made of fairly thick aluminum. The back is made of high quality plastic. Overall I am very happy with this lens so far. If I find anything else I will update this review accordingly. Well made, compact, very sharp and pleasant to use - what more could you ask for than a full frame equivalent and a round picture setting so the edges aren't cropped?
