I have a 2020 13.5" MacBook Pro M1 and I have a crack in the screen, so I was looking for a lightweight portable swivel monitor. I connected with a micro HDMI / HDMI cable the first time and nothing happened. Then I connected the USB-C to USB-C cable and the computer recognized the monitor right away. It's vibrant and bright. Today is the first day I've been using it and I'm at a conference. It works great !I have a protective plastic sleeve on my laptop as it is not my personal device so the magnets stick to it and not the device.The adhesive on the four magnets is strong enough to hold the monitor in place but they send extra if required.
