Review on ✨ CHFCAF120 Cutler Hammer Circuit Breaker - Enhancing Safety and Efficiency by Donald Phillips

Good fire protection switch

I bought this to add a new circuit to my garage. My house is not new and all the panels are old style Cutler Hammer. You can get old circuit breakers that look like the others for very little money, but I wanted an AFCI switch. These AFCI switches trip on short circuits, and houses burn down. If they were cheaper I would replace all of my existing circuit breakers, but they are cheap enough that any new circuit I add will be AFCI. The outlets you use must be 20 amp (they have a small horizontal notch coming out the side like the Leviton CR020-W 20 amp 125 volt duplex outlet slim straight blade industrial grade self grounding white ). suitable for heavier applications such as power tools and kitchen appliances. Anyway, this switch works fine for me. I installed it myself and it was easy. I had no false alarms, which was an issue with older AFCI switches. In my experience they seem to have fixed the faults. I considered buying an GFCI instead (they protect people from electrocution, not your house from fire), but that was expensive too, and you can get such protection, by installing a GFCI socket as the first element in the circuit. In short this switch fits in a slot in my switch box, works well and will hopefully keep my house safe from fire.

Pros
  • Magnetic circuit breakers
Cons
  • Cord is shorter than other picks
