One of the pins didn't work and erased the plastic.

I liked most of the colors of these pens and had no problem getting them to work at all. I am using them for plant labels and will see how long the colors hold up in the California sun. However, there was one handle, it was gold colored, that didn't have a rattling part in it (or it was jammed) so all the shaking and trying to get it to work didn't work. Also, the labels I could write on were easily rubbed off with dry, bare fingers, fingernails, or a gardening glove. So yes, although it writes on most surfaces, it acts like a dry erase marker on plastic.
