Review on ๐Ÿ“ท Universal Car Rear-View Backup Camera Kit + Waterproof License Plate Camera & 4.3" LCD Monitor by Cho Screeton

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Works great, but don't forget to dip (Plasti-Dip)

This camera does its job and for the price I had nothing to lose. The wire was only 5 feet from what I needed for an extended Ford Sprinter van; however, it might be enough if I put it near the 3rd traffic light and point down; However, I didn't want to cut a hole in the company car. A small stranded wire could easily be used to splice the supplied lead (maybe 25 feet) and adjust it to my needs. My only complaint is the camera's lack of waterproofing, which earns 4 stars; However, I read other reviews and covered it with Plasti-Dip before installing (Plasti-Dip comes in a variety of colors and can be purchased from Home Depot). I just used masking tape and an Xacto knife to mask the IR light and lens. (My photo shows a sloppy handmade extra coating of the stitching around the lens; it could have been nicer, but it doesn't affect the camera's view.). If you're using Plasti-Dip I suggest you use an Xacto blade to trace the lines of your tape before peeling it off. Sometimes the plasti-dip comes off with the tape. I considered dipping the whole chamber straight up instead of spraying (Plasti-Dip in "can" form for dipping tool handles); would make a nice coat. Anyway, the camera works great. I want to turn off the tire tracking feature on the display because my license plate is not in the center of the car. I put some strips of duct tape on the screen to illustrate my own wheel tracks for reference. The supplied mounting tape proved useless and failed right after installation; However, I've used screws and rammed this suction cup into the overhead console and it's not going anywhere. The gist of the story is that this is a $30 camera that needs some tweaking but works as advertised. I like it.

Pros
  • Everything's great!
Cons
  • You could have chosen a newer model
