Review on πŸŽ’ Osprey Farpoint Travel Backpack: Essential Daypack for Casual Adventures by Brian Nicholas

Revainrating 5 out of 5

I can't wait to try it out!

When I saw this backpack I knew I had to have it! 16 days vacation in Peru with a friend. on the hop on hop off bus with different hotels almost every night. I somehow couldn't carry my suitcases even though I usually travel with hand luggage. It just made more sense to take a backpack and so the search for the perfect backpack continued. Since I carry too many electronics with me (ipad, iphone, camera, chargers) my main goal was to find a backpack with a detachable pocket (I check Rick Steve's blogs a lot and I love the idea of an everyday bag) and so when I came across the Osprey Farpoint 55 and knew my search was over! I already know how to pack my carry on for long trips (3 weeks in South Africa with carry on) so sizing was a no brainer. S/M so I can proceed with this. Interestingly, I'm pretty sure it fits UNDER the seat in front of me. I did a test run with what I plan to pack in the main body and it's no more than a duffel bag that I often hide under my seat. Makes a great footstool! However, as there will only be clothes, I plan on tucking them up and don't expect any problems. There is a lot of talk about the lack of internal pockets in the main backpack. Since I plan to use packing cubes, this doesn't bother me. There is a mesh pocket on the inner top cover, which is handy for keeping some things separate from the rest. Inside, the main pocket is more spacious than it appears at first glance. Once you start stuffing things in, you realize that if you fill this backpack to the brim, you're taking WAY too much stuff! Overnight excursions in Peru while we leave the main backpack at the hostel. A quick change of clothes, electronics, a bottle of water and a place for a souvenir. The seat belt is comfortable and the backpack looks great. Overall, out of all the backpacks I've researched, this one is for you! UPDATE: Back from Peru and I LOVE this backpack! I used packing cubes which kept everything in order, which came in handy when we were moving to a new dorm on a daily basis, making it easy to take the cubes with us for underwear, pants, tops, whatever. no big mess as all clothes were folded everything was visible. Surprisingly, I only used the large pack as a suitcase and never put it on my back. Instead, I slung my daypack on my back and carried a larger one. However, my travel partner used it as a backpack and was very happy with it. If I had to be fussy about this system I would have to say that it would be great to have more external pockets to keep things organized and within reach, but I got a wallet organizer that fits nicely at the bottom of my everyday backpack really helped. Overall I'm very satisfied and can't wait to start my next adventure!
