Review on πŸŽ™οΈ High-Quality Audio Capture: Audio-Technica AT8024 Stereo/Mono Camera-Mount Condenser Microphone by Stacy Lewis

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Good mic but horribly cheap windscreen that comes with mic

Overall a good mic that works well when mounted on a camera or camcorder. Runs for many hours on an internal AA battery so the camera doesn't run out of power. Switch to adjust the output in dB in order not to overload the camera preamp, which is important for the sound quality. Neutral sound with this microphone. It also has a high pass filter so you can filter out excess noise in the lower part of the environment. The output is excellent and results in much less noise than using the camera's built-in microphones or a less expensive external microphone. This is one of the best camera mics I've found on sale for under $700 and works well without a dedicated mount, making it more compact and easier to mount in the field. The foam screen is very tight and I doubt it will hold up if removed frequently. The fluffy windshield is very cheaply made and sheds like crazy - like a dead cat, if you will - and is far from ideal for camera use. Replace the awful windshield with the stock windshield that Audio-Technica sells and you have a real winner.

Pros
  • Consistent test results
Cons
  • Could have chosen a newer model
