I have a Harbor Freight Charger 99857 on several vehicles and it works fine, but this item is no longer sold in California. I'm assuming it's the plumb bob, but who knows? I bought this similar Schumacher unit for my next car. Although their specs and looks are similar, I find the Schumacher SC1300 clearly superior. In the event of a power failure, the Schumacher charger disconnects from the battery via a relay, while the HFT charger slowly discharges it via the status LED. The SC1300 has a microprocessor to manage charge and maintenance mode, so it at least has the potential to perform better. In 5 years I may have better data but for now I recommend this charger. My main criticisms are common to both: the exposed connector needs environmental protection to prevent corrosion, and the size of the device seems oversized for its performance, especially with the mounting lugs; Finding a good mounting location that is close enough for the cables can be difficult. I had to replace one of the connectors with another for the smaller screw, but that's normal with this type of product.
