Large group of radios for events!

These were reliable walkie talkies and overall well worth the price. We have used them for day and night camps. We had no problems with signal strength in a 15,000 foot building and within a half block radius of the building to a local playground or 50 acres or so where we were at an overnight camp near Yosemite. The only problem we had in the mountains was that they occasionally pick up trucker radios from the freeway 10 miles away! If we had cellular to review the manual, there's sure to be a setting for setting up a more private network, but it didn't make much of a difference. Some people have mentioned problems with going 35 miles - if you are looking for something while traveling in a group I would advise looking at real CB radios as past experience has shown that this type of Radio equipment cannot withstand such a load. Battery life was excellent. During day camp, when they were in constant use, they lasted 10 hours and then had to be recharged. In the night camp, some of them worked for about a day before they had to be hooked up. If you want to use the included headphones, you can deduct half a star. They work well but are far from comfortable. There was only 3 weeks of use where we needed headphones for hours and if it had been much longer we would have bought better and more comfortable units. Whatever the case, they are a great addition and did what we needed. The only thing left to say is that it would be wise to practice a little on everyone's etiquette when using a walkie-talkie. They beep after someone stops talking so you don't have to repeat or anything, but it's good for people to know they can wait if they forgot to say something for others to respond if they don't have spoken. each other.
