Worked better than I expected. THE FIRST. If you have a free PCIe 16x slot, use that unless you have a 4x slot.

Works better than I expected, namely 80-90% performance compared to the main drive connected to the controller. I don't notice any speed loss myself, but it's faster in many situations. For example I connected my second PCIe16x slot which is set to 4x by the MoBo hardware due to the GPU. I have two Raid 0, one HDD and another SSD. And they are both divided into two sections. The transfer between partitions is much faster than usual, as if there is no need to send data through the main controller. Typically, reading and writing to the same drive will cut your speed in half. Transferring between two RAID0 strips is also faster, not in overall speed, but much higher on average. I can record some benchmarks, but it's not uncommon for files to move from SSD strips to HDD strips and average 230-300 or more. Mainly depends on the size of the files, even small files. For example, a game weighed about 33GB and contained 36,000 files, so the average is 1MB. However, it stayed above 60MB most of the time and usually the average stays at 70, but large single files can handle over 200MB/s. if only my hard drives usually hit 144 at best. So I get 175-180%. [I'm only using Windows 7 where the speed shown is the overall average] This controller appears to be faster on average, the top speed is about the same. BTW I'm using a PCIe 16x slot running at 4x due to the GPU. And My MoBo is nothing special or new [AsRock 970 Extreme 3 R 2.0 Socket AM3+] Oh yes and as they say it can be connected to a full PCIe 16x, in fact any PCIe in a 16x slot will work. But my board reduces the second 16x slot to 4x, which is what you need to take full advantage of this card. So remember, as long as you have a free, full PCIe16x, you can connect to it. I forgot who recommended this card but I thanked them. And there's a reason why there are so many other cards that are very cheap, well, they have a reason. Originally I only wanted to use 2 of my drives as I was running out of connections. Now I understand why people were talking about SSD and SSD strip speeds. I suspect it could be a bit faster, and on average a lot faster with Betta. Mr. Mobo

Pros
  • Works with solid state drives
Cons
  • Some minor things
