This card crashes the `lspci` system

This IO Crest card with 2 SATA III PCI-E 1x ports with ASmedia ASM1601 controller is the least Linux compatible device I've ever used. I tried this on Ubuntu 17.10 on Xen on an Asus Prime X370 Pro motherboard with a Toshiba SSD attached to it. The board is a UEFI board and the CSM has been enabled. The system boots normally and I see an additional boot screen from the card's option ROM where it recognizes my attached drive with no problems. The card was indeed recognized by Linux and tried to…

Pros
  • Supports 2 Serial ATA ports, native Command Queue (NCQ), Port Multiplier
Cons
  • Only available in white

Works better than I expected, namely 80-90% performance compared to the main drive connected to the controller. I don't notice any speed loss myself, but it's faster in many situations. For example I connected my second PCIe16x slot which is set to 4x by the MoBo hardware due to the GPU. I have two Raid 0, one HDD and another SSD. And they are both divided into two sections. The transfer between partitions is much faster than usual, as if there is no need to send data through the main…

Pros
  • Works with solid state drives
Cons
  • Some minor things

1 star because the description is unclear. The marketing of this card plays with the bandwidth ambiguity of this card. I confess that I didn't read the reviews before buying, it's my fault. The description states that this card only has 1 PCIe lane (PCIe x 1), but what that means for throughput depends on the version of PCIe implementation on your motherboard, which isn't in the description. After testing I got smarter (too late). The first issue was that I was getting unwanted text on my blank

Pros
  • This card requires drivers.
Cons
  • Low maintainability
