Mounted shaft upside down. My extension is 4" or 5" wide so the flipped extension takes up less room on my desk but is still within reach and off the floor. And once I have my cables organized, I also have a cleaner look under my desk. I'm writing this literally 5 minutes after I received and installed the package so I'll add more to my review later if I run into any issues, but for now I'm loving it! I'll be ordering a second pair for my other setup, but you can only get away with one of the mounts if you mount them vertically, especially if you have a standard extension.
