When I first bought this item I used it daily for a couple of weeks but I didn't notice much of a difference in my beard whether I used it or not. This is the first beard oil I've used so I didn't know what to expect. I bought it because my mustache is very rough, it annoys me when the cut ends curl back and touch the skin, and I was hoping there would be a softening effect. I could not tell that a strong softening was going on. Sage and sandalwood have a very mild scent that doesn't last long; Cedar pine smells the best and the scent lasts for several hours without being overpowering even at first. I don't blame this particular product for not doing what I was hoping for - I think beard oil in general just won't work for me. If you have a coarse, coarse beard like mine, don't expect too much.
