If you do this, first simply remove the supplied adhesive tape. Replace it with the 3M strip that came separately in the box. I have an iPhone with a Lifeproof case - it weighs about 5 1/2 ounces and the original adhesive just can't handle that much weight. I attached it vertically to the dashboard and let it dry overnight. The weight of the phone just ripped the mount off the dashboard and left a thin layer of adhesive on my dashboard. It was very difficult to remove the glue from the torpedo (I had to resort to Goof Off's glue remover), but it was easy enough to peel the remaining strip off the mount. After finally removing all the glue I reattached it with a 3M strip and now it's holding up like a champ. I will say I contacted the seller about this and he told me that if the 3M glue doesn't hold, he will send me some more durable material. Luckily I didn't have to do that. I recommend. I used to have a magnetic mount on the vent, but living in Alaska my heater is always on and my phone gets hot. I wanted to mount the phone away from the heater vents and this was my answer. The magnet is really strong and I have no problem rotating the phone when held on the mount. I already had a back on my case so I didn't use the ones that came with the product but I think they are all similar. My plate is on the outside of my suitcase because the Lifeproof suitcase doesn't have room to put anything inside. So in the end it does exactly what I wanted it to do. Update: July 3, 2018 – It's been like this for over a year. We've had very hot weather recently (hot for Alaska - this was in the 80's) and the mount was starting to peel off the tape. I put a few drops of super glue on the strip and let it sit overnight and it's like new. It's tugged a lot over the past year and I'm really surprised the glue bead has lasted so long. worth your money.
