Let me start by saying that the OEM decklid lift struts and the C5 Corvette Convertible decklid lift struts are the same. (At least they were on my 2002.) However, these lift struts are perfect for a trunk lid where the fully open position is not 100% critical, but they are just a short circuit for the trunk lid. I found them easy to install on the trunk lid with the trunk lid closed. I simply accessed them through the trunk opening by first unhooking the rear bracket on the old one and letting it expand, then unhooking the front bracket. Installation was completed by first attaching the front bracket (simply snapping it into place - there is no need to remove the locking clip to install), then closing the bootlid, opening the tonneau cover and removing the rear bracket so it snaps into place. extended position. It's a bit stretchy, but you can feel it without much difficulty. (Remind you that you can't open the trunk lid and trunk lid at the same time!) After installing them on the trunk lid, I found that the lid opens a little slower than fully open, and you have to lift the lid last . 1/8 inch with your elbow so the rear edge of the top is clear of the front edge of the decklid. I plan on running them on the trunk lid (for a good buy) and ordering slightly longer trunk lid racks.
