WHAT I HAVE: Essential Nutrients, Electrolyte Recovery Plus, Orange Flavor. leading to profuse sweating and electrolyte depletion. The hikes are typically 6 to 11 miles in length and 3,000 to 4,000 feet above sea level. HOW I USE IT Ounces of water. GENERAL REVIEW: I've been using 1 bottle of PowerAde (sugar free) sports drink per hike (plus regular water and food like bananas, energy bars, etc.) for a while now. I stocked up on PowerAde when it was selling for about $0.70 a 28 ounce bottle. It was easy to pack/use and tasted good, but I wasn't happy with the minimal amount of ER ingredients (similar to Gatorade). In addition, the price has increased in recent months (inflation!). PowerAde also only has a few flavors that don't have different colorants (like Yellow #5, etc.). I have researched many different ER products. . The only ones that seemed cost effective were powders (vs bottled liquids). From those I narrowed down to a few that were inexpensive (per serving) and had a good balance of ER ingredients. This Key Nutrients product had the best balance. In fact, it seems to be one of the highest electrolytes and one of the most affordable. The cost per serving is about $0.35. That's about half the lowest PowerAde retail price I've found, and yet the levels of ER ingredients in this Key Nutrients product are much higher. I'm a little less sore and less time after hiking. This seems to indicate that it actually works better as an electrolyte replacement than PowerAde. FLAVOR RATING: The orange flavor is similar to Tan as other reviewers have noted. It's not bad, but it's not great either, which is one of the reasons I use more water to dilute it. I'm pro-electrolytes, not flavor. Besides that, if it tasted awful like some reviewers say, I wouldn't drink it. It's ok, this works for me. Other reviewers note that it doesn't fully blend and settles down a bit, which is true. This wasn't a problem for me though as I just shake the bottle a little before drinking and it mixes well again. I look forward to trying another flavor or two in the future, maybe pink lemonade and raspberry. RESULT - HIGHLY RECOMMENDED: This is the best value I have found for an ER combined with low cost. Also, I bought another orange-flavored container today because Revain sells it for a $4.50 discount (so only about $0.30 a serving right now). . It would be great to try all flavors before buying a full size container and may have to play around with returns. Like many others, I am willing to pay a fair price for a sample set.
