Okay so I've only been trying for two days to get my neighbor's dog to stop barking and howling while she's outside. I think this seems to work. I followed simple instructions on how to find the box to get his attention, and hell I knew it! His head snapped towards me when that was the right thing! When he first started barking, I blew the whistle and followed him with a firm "Quiet!" Each time he howled or barked, I repeated the procedure. I almost think he used to be a whistle coach because he reacted so quickly. Today I "believe" that he checks me if I'm in my house because as soon as I whistle he stops even without a "quiet" command. It would be great if I could eventually stop and just get on with my life instead of raising the neighbor's dog. She may wonder if she really wants to own a dog given the many hours she doesn't spend with him.
