Before I write this review I would like to start by saying that I have done a lot of research on this type of player and even some of my own experiments, so I'd look at what I found pretty trustworthy. I wish someone would write a review like this for me when I was considering buying it. #1 Is this a good turntable for beginners or people who just want to play a few records for aesthetic reasons? Absolutely. The sound quality isn't great but I mean what do you expect for $40. It plays recordings without a hitch and Bluetooth is great for any occasion. Here you can find out how to upgrade your setup at minimal cost. Purchase an RCA to mini-jack cable. Plug it into a speaker you already have, or if you have a practice amp in my case because you play an instrument, get a 1/4" mini jack converter and plug it into the amp ! That works great! #2 Will it ruin my records? no I will not. I made a little scale and using dimes weighed the downforce which was about 5g. Now compared to $200 gamers chasing 3G this seems like a lot. But remember that recording records required up to 7 or 8g downforce as many old turntables could handle around 5 or 6g downforce. Now, while these heavier tracks wear them down faster, they do NOT ruin them. you! The needle is also diamond shaped, so the needle is actually pretty decent. Now you can actually adjust the downforce on this thing. Take a small scale, like the one you're baking on, put your tonearm on it, take pennies and nickels and start stacking them on the back of the tone where the counterweight should be. One of your tonearms weighs around 3.5-4g. Take those coins, put them together and attach them to the back of this tonearm. Maybe even go for around 4-4.5g because in my experience those cheap ones are very easy to miss. #3 Is it portable? Absolutely not. You have to plug it into an outlet and it may break completely, when thrown around. The lid is also completely useless. I removed the cover by loosening the screws on the back hinges. The lid, even when open, is NOT big enough to run 12" vinyls on it. The edge is right under your plate, about millimeters lower and if you have ANY fault it will hit the edge at all and make it jump. That's probably a lot of people's problem when she hops and just doesn't know. Just remove the cover, it's useless. #4 Does he jump? Sounds weird? Absolutely not. He skipped me once, and after repeating that section, he never did it again. It was probably just my fault as I accidentally banged on the vinyl I was playing when I took it out of the envelope. I also tested Wow and Flutter with the phone app. Let me tell you this is BAD as Wow and the flutter is REALLY HIGH. But even in this case I did NOT notice any distortion in the sound. It can be worse when playing above 33 RPM, but at least for 33 it's fine. #5 Is it worth the price? 100% if you know what you are getting. I didn't expect this player to be good or even great. It's okay at best, and I'm okay with that because it's $40. If you are looking for a very good player with great sound quality, don't buy this one. If you really want to immerse yourself in vinyl, don't take this. If you want to get the most out of your records, don't take this. If you just want to set up some cheap records and put them in your room because it's cool and aesthetic, go ahead, I'm doing it for exactly that reason. (Also I bought a return from Amazon and haven't encountered any problems with it. Don't be afraid to buy a used one for less, you can always return it if it's really broken, but it will probably still work.) that this one player will be good or even great.
