This assortment is great for the beginner that I am. There is a wide range of colors and yarn that is simple enough to make many realistic and whimsical creatures. For needle felting I recommend an assorted set consisting of a long and a short needle. The long one is usually a 36 (your main felting needle) with a triangular point. Short - 38. For the best needle I recommend Bear Creek who sells a star shaped point. Felting wool is easier to pierce with this tip, so I took size 38 for the detailing. I used 8 oz white Corriedale for the core of my animal. I've found that it takes more effort to get the shape I want, but it's relatively cheap wool for the amount you get and it's great for your animal's core. It just takes longer to get a solid core. What's nice, this white can also be used for white spots on your little animal. You don't have to add white. Just use the open core.
