Review on πŸ”Œ Tripp Lite HDMI Over Cat5/Cat6 Extender: Extended Range Transmitter and Receiver - HD Video and Audio at 1920x1200 1080p 60Hz (B126-1A1) by Jay Buford

The product just works and works well! (but died after 8 months)

I'm switching to HDMI sharing between multiple TVs, abandoning the old method of pure RF modulation. Revain's reviews on this article made me skeptical that this would work properly, but since it was one of the few offerings that allowed simultaneous local and remote display of an HDMI signal over a single Cat5e wire, I took the plunge . After receiving these I connected both sides and the BAM system works perfectly, I didn't even have to touch the POT or make any adjustments. I know there are some reviews that say this doesn't work, but I've been watching the remote site for the last 3 hours without the slightest hiccup. My house is hooked up to a Cat5e home distribution (installed by myself) which made the installation easy and the picture is perfect on both the local and remote TV. I am using extenders with the satellite receiver set to 720p as that is the native resolution of both the local and remote TVs. The total length of Cat5e cable is 70 feet. In general, if you have a good quality or higher rated Cat5e cable, it should work perfectly. =================== ====================== UPDATE: It is now June 2013 or about Its 8 months later since I bought this product in November 2012 and the device died on me. All LEDs on the devices are lit, but no video or audio signal is sent to either the local or remote TV. I contacted Tripp-Lite for an RMA and will be sharing my experience here after the headache of sending it in for repair under the one year warranty. I used to give the product 5 stars but now downgraded that to 3 stars as I only have 8 months before it stops working. When it works, it works great - I just expect the product to last at least 3-5 years at this price point. ====================================== UPDATE 2: Beware with Tripp-Lite - I bought this one Unit over stock offers from Revain and Tripp-Lite refused to cover the warranty because the product was sold as "used". If you are purchasing this unit pre-owned please note that Tripp-Lite makes *no warranties on it. Thankfully, Revain's customer service is way better!

Pros
  • EXTEND HDMI TO CAT5/CAT6: B126 1A1 can transmit 1080i (60Hz) signals up to 200ft, 1080p (60Hz) signals up to 150ft and 3D signals up to 125ft . ft.
Cons
  • The cable is shorter than other options
