I bought these because they are almost the same as some of the car ashtrays my wife bought at the dollar store. The dollar store version was much better. First take 3 small pieces of electrical tape and wrap the lid with it; it's loose enough to fall over if the ashtray tips over. More importantly, the "rests", the recesses where you could briefly put a cigarette, are too wide and don't hold or grip the cigarette at all. This can be a real fire hazard if you don't balance it perfectly OR if you look away for more than a moment. A lit cigarette falls out immediately. Update: you can see how I added the tape to hold the lid in place and the rest tight enough to hold the cigarette in place.
