Nice little power supply

I wanted a power supply for some old car audio equipment (150W, 5ch, 30A class input, component speaker and subwoofer). I was getting power from a car battery/charger in my garage. and for the price i thought "why not?". Truly direct connections with an adjustable voltage potentiometer next to the terminal block. I set mine to 14.4V with a DMM, hooked up my 5 channel amp and listened for any audible noise. No one. Increased gain on amplifier, still nothing. Okay, let's "give away the beans" to see what they can do. Full Length Slayer, Pink Floyd, Steely Dan, Primus. It's much better than a battery which offers 12.6VDC in terms of dynamic headroom and I don't have to worry about the voltage dropping over time. Also, I can take this system to the basement without worrying about the battery emitting hydrogen while charging. So impressed that I will be buying at least 2 more so I can power my 'big amp' (620W RMS 5ch hybrid class ab/d 75A input). The fan is a bit annoying so I'll assemble it and place it/them. There are no instructions. There is also no on/off button. You really aren't needed unless you're working beyond your ability. As I said, they are definitely worth the money and I will buy a few more. *Edit* I removed the star due to fan noise. It was incredibly noisy when starting. So much so that while waiting for it to warm up, it's impossible not to hear it in the background for a few minutes unless the volume is cranked up loud enough to make the house awkward. Curious if it runs with the fan disabled and uses a bigger (better) fan in the secondary chassis.

Pros
  • handy item
Cons
  • so far so good
