Review on Monster Master Sharpening Stone: Best Abrasive & Finishing Products for Knife Sharpening by Chuck Chen

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Interesting whetstones.

This kit came with no instructions or even a grit for a block with two larger grit. So let me say this is a set of water stones. You should soak them between ten minutes and an hour before use, and then keep adding water as you sharpen the blade. You bring your knife forward in sweeping semi-circular motions to sharpen it. An angle wedge is not included so you will need to estimate the angle you want (probably around 18 degrees but can vary from 12 to 24 degrees). Do two forward movements on one side, and then two more on the other. The rough blocks are 120 and 320 grit, both designed to repair very rough, jagged edges rather than the usual knife sharpeners, mostly already in good condition. To sharpen, you need a 1000 grit stone. 4000 grit is really overkill for most kitchen knives and most people. This set of stones appears to be less grainy than many others. I'm more used to a set of small 400/1000 grits. Good keeper. good stones. The kit does not contain an angle wedge and a dressing/truing block. This, combined with the lack of instructions, resulted in it earning four stars instead of five. But if you already know how to use a stone set, then this five-star set is for you.
