I'm dying my hair bright little mermaid red. Of course my hair is dark brown/black. I use Loreal HiColor Hilights in "Magenta” (Magenta gives me a cooler shade of red instead of the warm tone her "Red” gives) from Sally Beauty Supply to color my roots red and I keep everything else going with Pravana. Red. I haven't dyed the ends with anything else since I first dyed them over a year ago. I don't use a developer with Pravana. I just apply it straight to my hair and leave it on for a few hours. It's not harmful so even with bright red hair I was able to grow my hair out for quite a while! I used to have this hair color and used Manic Panic instead of Pravana, that was before I knew Pravana. During a wash, most of the Manic Panic paint gets thrown down the drain. And with ice water! With Pravana I can use warm water again! Long live the whirlpool! Even with warm water my color lasts a good month if I wash it twice a week (I use dry shampoo between washes) before I have to reapply red! If I'm not lazy I can mix a little in my conditioner when I wash my hair and touch it up that way and it looks amazing! I will never use Manic Panic again. Pravana gave me what I was told Red could never do. Has amazing durability!
