Review on πŸ”Œ High-performance Ethernet Server Module USR-TCP232-302: Compact Serial to Ethernet TCP IP Server Module Converter with DHCP/DNS Support by Eduardo Reyes

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Great for older PLCs

This is for use with an ALLEN BRADLEY SLC 5/04 PLC processor. I had to take it out of the metal case because I didn't have a male to female DB9 cable at the time. It didn't work at first because I had a null modem adapter between usr and the cpu. The pinout in the manual for usr led me to believe that I needed to reverse the Rx and Tx lines. But after removing the zero adapter everything worked. Either it was wrong or my PLC pinout was wrong. I set it up with a static IP address on my home network and can access it from anywhere with almost anything (including a VNC connection to my server from my smartphone at work). I was able to connect to the network from a PLC (3 different computers at the same time). time even. It took a while to adjust the serial communication settings so that it wasn't "take it out of the box, plug it in and it works". If baud rate, parity, RTS, DF1, CRC or packet size are foreign words to you, buy at your own risk. Or actually buy it. If you don't know anything about how RS232 communication works, this is a great tutorial. If it runs on the ALLEN BRADLEY DF1 proprietary protocol (which this thing doesn't know and no one else on the planet uses), then it runs on everything. it would be a great learning tool.
