I think the towel rails can be made of plastic? The ends are metal. But so far it's holding up well for everyday use by my husband and I. We've had it for about a month now. I recommend using better quality drywall anchors than the ones included in the kit. I drilled the first hole, put a dowel in it, and when I tried to put a screw in, the dowel fell through the hole and out of the wall. It was NOT due to the inability to do the manual work. The anchors didn't have flat spots around the hole, which in most cases should prevent them from falling through the wall. They were also very thin. If you try to drive it into the wall with a light hammer blow, it just bends in half. Grrr! Other than that my husband is not stingy with anything and it has held up very well and looks very good. I recommend this product but buy the best drywall anchors before you start the installation!
