mosquito extermination! (ERROR)

UPDATED 17 August 2020: DO NOT BUY. Changed from 5 to 1 star. After many years, my lightbulb failed and I ordered another fixture. The product now has a "more transparent" bulb compared to the black bulb in the previous device and doesn't attract insects in the same way. Or actually at all. To return. It's sad when a company has a really great product and then it goes badly because of a small change. I don't know how long this product has been modified since my last review. PREVIOUS REVIEW June 23, 2015: We live between a swamp and two ponds in a densely overgrown area, so we're always at war with mosquitoes. We installed a propane mosquito cleaner in the yard this spring and had to clean it every day because the basket filled up to the point where it stopped sucking and stopped sucking mosquitoes. And although he collected at least a few hundred mosquitoes every day, he lost the suction power for all the bugs and poplar fluff. So we placed this Flowtron bug killer (1/2 acre) within 5 feet of the propane vacuum in hopes that it would take some of the load off the mosquito cleaner. I would have been happy if the mosquito grill had collected at least half as many mosquitoes as the mosquito vacuum, but it wasn't! We have found that this repellent kills at least 1000 times more mosquitoes than propane! THAT'S INCREDIBLE! I have attached a photo of what the unit looks like in the morning after it has been fully hosed down. THOUSANDS of little crooks! There were maybe a few dozen bugs that weren't mosquitoes, the rest were mosquitoes. I wouldn't expect this kind of performance with just a standalone bug trap, I think it has to do with the combination of propane mosquitoes that attract them since they're right next to the bug trap. However, this mosquito slaughter has a downside. Now we have to clean this block every day too! The net gets so strong from the fried mosquitoes that it blocks all the light from the bulb! We simply unplug it, hose it down and dry it by laying it on our central condensing unit for about 30 minutes (a gentle blast of warm air!). So 5 stars for the massive damage to the mosquito population (thousands a day!) 4.8 stars for having to clean them every day. I can't give 4.9 stars, so 5! WARNING: Do not hang this unit above deck or near flammable objects as it occasionally rains with burning (burning!) insect debris! Seriously, there should be a warning sticker on it. FLAMING BUGS FROM THIS BLOCK. I wouldn't be surprised if one night this whole bug trap burns down. (and I won't be disappointed in the slightest! DEATH TO THE COMAKS!) We decided to order another Flowtron, a larger 1 1/2 acre unit, hopefully to better deal with the mosquito load. We're hanging this in the yard at the end of a 50ft extension - it only has a 6" cord, you'll need an extension! - on a shepherd's hook. I would never recommend hanging this on or near anything you weren't ready to burn down. Update July 1, 2015: The 1 1/2 acre Flowtron was an absolute mosquito killer. It didn't even practically kill any bugs! A light bulb on a smaller 1/2 acre lot looks like a black light. Deep purple, not very bright. Attracts bugs like crazy. The lightbulb on the 1 1/2 acre block is blue and very bright. Brightly light up your entire yard, including your neighbor's house! Insanely bright! Not sure if the color isn't good for attracting bugs but it actually repelled them from the mosquito cleaner! Not sure what I'm going to do with a 1 and 1/2 acre block with a super bright bulb. I will never buy it again and recommend people to stay away from it. Go with a 1/2 acre unit, it's great.
