It turned out that the valve was smeared with garbage
The cartridge is completely useless and I have to buy a new one. Only hot water comes out of the shower. I removed and cleaned the cartridge. This gave me cold water for a couple of days, but within three days it blocked up again and now it's hot water only. It is very important to inspect the cartridge before the 30 day return period expires. I had to wait for my tilers to finish and missed my 30 day return period.
