ATTENTION CHECK! Taking a risk with such conflicting reviews. I am happy. I will use them for everyday napkins. I have included photos in hopes of demonstrating the qualities I was interested in. I washed them in a hot long wash. I dried them on high heat/completely dry. I didn't use fabric softener as it prevents the liquid from being absorbed. I immediately took them out of the dryer. They are wavy/slightly wrinkled and shrunk only 3 inches in length; doesn't matter much to me. If you try to show the thickness you will see that they are folded both once and twice. You can also see them in 1, w and 3 layers on a dark patterned tablecloth. I couldn't see the pattern through the towel. They're not as stiff/clear or thick as my 100% cotton towels, but that's not a problem for me. The herringbone pattern adds some structure/body and looks pretty. The stripe is dark blue and runs down the middle. I poured about 1/4 cup of water onto a loosely folded towel and it soaked instantly without sagging or dripping. Spills on the counter will not clean up well as a lot of moisture will remain. This does not replace my terry towels for drying my hands or dishes. But it would serve very well for covering food/dough, filling a breadbasket, drying hands over your shoulder, and cleaning glass. Pretty much the same things we used old fashioned big square diapers for. They lost the star because the hemmed edges are not "rectangular" and there are slight imperfections in the fabric; no deal breaker, just kind of a rustic touch.
