Review on EZL03 Multi-Purpose Sharpener by EZE LAP by Mark Loredo

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Ok but there are better options and manufacturers

Short answer: Buy a Speedy Sharp if you need this type of device. Long answer: There is no real reason to be loyal to the brand, the inscription was immediately deleted. There is no hole for a lanyard in the plastic (there is in the metal under the rubber bushing). Compared to the Speedy Sharp, the carbide area is less polished, which may be why it doesn't perform as efficiently as other similar tools. This tool works well and is sufficient, but it is inferior to Speedy Sharp. The cost difference between the EZE-LAP and the Speedy Sharp was less than $4. If you want to use it as a fireproof steel firing pin, that's a good reason to get a Speedy too. However, the Speedy is very aggressive and slices through firesteel very quickly. This tool was not aggressive enough and could not produce sparks, unlike Speedy and other specially made fireproof steel firing pins. This is a disqualifying event for this tool as a camping fire starter tool. If all you need is a tool for sharpening scissors, axes, and blades, it does the job perfectly, and a less aggressive nature can be a bonus here, being less destructive during the learning curve. EDIT - I spent less than a minute running the main facet over a small diamond stone from the same manufacturer. Performance has greatly improved, but I'll leave my assessment as is. Out of the box performance was disappointing compared to the more expensive Speedy Sharp and a similar product I bought at my local store for $5.

Pros
  • Very good value for money
Cons
  • Unbelievable price
